It’s Up In The Air

So, it finally happened (I say that like I’ve been pursuing this goal for a while, whereas, in the scheme of things, it’s been literally no time at all). I got an audition. It’s for the film Pull Stop, which starts filming in early July in the Portland area. The part I’m auditioning for is the part of Tamara, the character that was written as developmentally delayed. The producers sent me the portion of the script they want me to read. Nothing too difficult, and I like the character.

So, what’s up in the air? Follow the cut to find out.

The only problem, the huge problem, is that the audition is this weekend. I happen to be out of town this weekend. In fact, I’m on a flight right now back to Orlando to finish up the contract I was doing in November/December (see my commitment—blogging while on the plane). It’s very frustrating. So, I will have to miss the audition most likely. I recognize that I’m not going to be making money in acting, since that is not even the goal, but I do make money as an editor and writer. It just so happens that the work I can find right now isn’t in Portland.

However, there’s a potential for me to have an interview in the coming weeks for a position in Portland. I don’t want to go into details about it, but it’s a pretty ideal job for me. However, who knows what will happen. So, I have to go with the economy’s flow and go to where the work is, despite that inconvenience. I’m sure many of you can relate to this situation, especially in this recession (are we still calling it that?), and especially for the creative types.

Is there a silver lining? Of course there is! Now I may get to be in Vengeance after all! They said the scenes I’d be in were most likely being shot in the last weekend of January. So, if I don’t get the job in Portland and head back home, then I will be in Orlando for the shoot.

Now it’s just a matter of timing. I’m not sure when it’s appropriate to call the Vengeance team and say I can be back on it, if they still can use me of course (though I’m pretty certain they’ll need extras, even if I’m no longer the role of Thug’s Girlfriend). I’m also not sure when it’s appropriate to call the Pull Stop team and let them know I won’t be able to audition. The problem is that I’m not sure when or if I will get the interview in Portland. Everything is in flux.

Maybe this blog will become “How to land acting gigs while living in two cities, having no agent and no experience, and working full time.”

But now that I’ve used the word ‘flux’, I am thinking of Dolorians and driving 88mph, and I can’t even go on the Back to the Future ride at Universal when I’m in Orlando because they turned it into the Simpsons Ride. For shame.

To foreshadow tomorrow’s entry, what do you think of when you think of glamour? Sunglasses? Yeah, I’ve just realized that I left mine in Portland. Orlando’s going to be really, really bright without them. Looks like I’m buying a new pair (I like Walgreens to buy sunglasses from, cheap, convenient, and 100% UV protection).
